BELLEVUE SUNRISE ROTARY CLUB ANNOUNCES
SELECTION OF THE THIRD ROTARY SCHOLAR

RS3: Petra Dubekova – Class of 2027  – Spokane Learning Community

My name is Petra Dubekova, and I have just begun my second year as a medical student. I was so grateful to receive this Rotary Scholarship this year, and my gratitude continues this year as I have been provided this privilege once more. Medicine is my passion, and I cannot imagine myself working in any other field, but the financial burden of becoming a doctor is not a small one. This scholarship makes a significant difference in my financial situation, and for that I will always be thankful.
I moved to the US when I was 11 years old and have been calling Washington State home ever since. I feel very fortunate to have grown up in this beautiful state, and I am looking forward to serving my state as a future physician. The welcoming nature of the state is also reflected in the mission of our school, and I am proud to call myself a Coug Doc!
I am currently interested in pediatric surgical specialties such as ophthalmology. However, I am also passionate about providing medical care to people with limited access to healthcare resources. Since moving to Spokane, I have spent time at the Trent Resource and Assistance Center as a volunteer with CHAS. Seeing the impact that the CHAS staff has made on people’s lives through compassionate, accessible healthcare motivates me to continue seeking out ways that I can serve the underserved. As I continue to explore the medical field, I am grateful for the people of Spokane and the surrounding area for being willing to work with and educate another generation of medical providers.

Thank you,

Petra Dubekova

Disease Prevention and Treatment is one of Rotary’s causes. This aligns well with the WSU College of Medicine. Their goal is to address challenging health care environments with a focus on rural communities, Tribal Nations, and people who have been historically marginalized. Our shared goal is to endow Rotary scholarships that will support four medical students every year, indefinitely.

Bellevue Sunrise Rotary is partnering with  Washington’s Champion for student success, education excellence and career readiness.  The goal is to to help reduce the shortage of physicians in vast areas of the state through the Rotary Scholarship in Medicine that has been estblished at the Washington State University (WSU) Foundation.
